Like the Cobley family the Powells for many years were also involved in one particular trade,
namely that of the Stonemason. Whilst the family remained in Brilley the trade was passed down
the generations from father to son . Brilley is a rural community on the English /Welsh border
and it is probable the men worked as masons not only on local housing but on local farm buildings
and walls. On leaving Brilley they seem to have turned their hands to other work my grandfather
first working as a journeyman (bakers roundsman) then as a baker. Other members of the family
who remained in Hereford tended to move into farming.
